Hey guys, so as you know there is a lot more to Zelda than just completing the games. There are no-death runs, minimalist runs, 100% runs etc. Today I am going to compile a list of every challenge that one can do in a Zelda game. Post how many of these challenges you have completed, and see if it would be worth your time to go back and do some more of them!
A ground rule for any challenge is that you should avoid using a walkthrough at any point in the story. Often times there are gossip stones or your partner can help you out. If absolutely needed, you can use a walkthrough right before the final boss to collect anything you may have missed. But try to do it all beforehand.
Warning, there may be some minor spoilers ahead!
The Legend of Zelda

Epic Six Heart Challenge: Complete the Second Quest with only the default three hearts. (If you beat Second Quest without collecting any additional containers, you are allowed to claim the Three Heart Challenge for the First Quest.)

Aaaand done. I found an impossible one and it's the Perfect As Is Challenge in Adventure of Link. The game forces you to spend your experience if it exceeds the maximum (which at the start of the game is at 200 points). Losing your points won't help because some of the unavoidable boss type enemies near the endgame drop more than 200 points. This means you can't progress without leveling up at least once at some point, I can't remember how many times it happens though.I'd just like to add the pacifist challenge, which means beating the game by defeating the least possible number of enemies. Among Zelda games I've only attempted it in Ocarina of Time so far so I don't have the specifics for other games, but here it is anyway. I've discovered things that have changed this list after I did the challenge myself, so technically I haven't done it by following these exact conditions. It's still potentially changing, and if you want to help you can tell me if you've found a way around any of these
Display Spoiler
enemies without resorting to glitchy tricks. It's a big list and I don't recommend looking at it if you're even slightly interested in figuring it out all by yourself.
[espoiler]Inside the Great Deku Tree
There are Deku Scrubs, one before the slingshot room and three more before Queen Gohma's room. In both cases the door ahead is sealed and won't open before you defeat the enemies. Although you let them get away, I decided to take count of them because you can go past all the other Deku Scrubs in the game. Then there's the Queen Gohma boss at the end of the dungeon. (5)
Sacred Forest Meadow
There's a Wolfos "guarding" the gate into the maze. (6)
Dodongo's Cavern
You fight two plus two Lizalfos in the dungeon and the King Dodongo boss at the end. (11)
Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly
You fight four Stingers in the boomerang room (to make the chest appear) and three Parasitic Tentacles in the same floor. The green one blocks the passage to the Bigocto miniboss and later there's Barinade as the end boss. (20)
Forest Temple
You fight two plus three Stalfos in the dungeon, first for a small key and then for the fairy bow later in the room above. Right after getting the boss key you drop into a room with two green Bubbles. The following passage takes you to a room where you fight a Floormaster for a small key. You have to hunt down the Poe sisters Beth, Joelle, Amy and Meg so you can reach the bottom floor where the Phantom Ganon boss battle will take place. (33)
Fire Temple
You blast through a fake door into the first Flare Dancer miniboss arena. There's a rematch/another Flare Dancer much later in the dungeon, but to get there you have to defeat four Torch Slugs and two (fire) Keese in the room before. Then there's Volvagia of course. (42)
Ice Cavern
You fight four Freezards in the first slippery room (to unbar the hole in the wall) and a white Wolfos in the iron boots room. (47)
Water Temple
You fight three Shell Blades in the room behind princess Ruto. In one of the bottom floor rooms (enterable through the central tower) there are two Shell Blades and five Spikes. You fight in both rooms to get small keys. After that there's only Dark Link and Morpha. (59)
Gerudo's Fortress
You fight four Gerudo guards for small keys. They don't die though, but gameplay-wise it's the same thing. (63)
Spirit Temple
After you meet Nabooru you fight four (fire) Keese and an Armos to pass through. You fight an Anubis soon after that for the same reason. Later you fight an Iron Knuckle for the silver gauntlets. As adult Link you eventually get into a room where you fight three Anubis and a Beamos to gain passage. It's a little before the room where you fight another Iron Knuckle for the mirror shield. After that there's only the boss room battles against Nabooru (although she doesn't die, but fights like an Iron Knuckle just the same) and Twinrova. (77)
Shadow Temple
You fight Dead Hand for the hover boots early on. Very close to the end there's an invisible Floormaster in the "wooden X room" guarding a small key chest. Then you fight Bongo Bongo for the Shadow medallion. (honorable mentions to the two Stalfos on the sinking boat - there's nothing you can do to save them so the tragedy might as well not count against you as long as you make sure you don't attack them or "push them overboard" before you abandon boat) (80)
Ganon's Castle
You fight three invisible Keese and one invisible Skulltula for a small key in the Light barrier passageway. In the Water one there are two Freezards keeping a door barred. In the tower there are two Dinolfos, two Stalfos and two Iron Knuckles along the way. After the fight with Ganondorf there are two more Stalfos in the crumbling tower and Ganon in the ruins. (96)[/espoiler]
Try also skipping the lens of truth entirely or rescuing the carpenters without stunning any of the guards. Both can be naturally included in the pacifist challenge.- Apr 17th 2013

I'd just like to add the pacifist challenge, which means beating the game by defeating the least possible number of enemies.
Well since you were so kind as to explain in detail how to do that for OoT, I will add it to the list and give you credit. Thanks!- Apr 19th 2013
I'd also like to share the most memorable moments from the Ocarina of Time pacifist challenge run, mostly a list of the hardest and most annoying things you're going to have to pull off if you're up to the challenge. Some of these really changed the way to play the game. I'm putting it behind spoilers again just in case you don't want to be, well, spoiled by this.
[espoiler]In the Deku Tree, the only really hard part is getting past the skullwalltulas above the map chest. It takes timing, patience and luck. Watch how they spin, wait for the spot when you can climb behind them and listen to the sounds they make so you know when they're coming to get you. They're fast, but they can only move in a straight line, if they miss they will turn around and go back where they were which takes them a long time. You can avoid them by immediately moving to the left or right, but it only works when there's so much distance that they come from off screen. Make sure you have bought enough deku nuts (yes, I said bought, because this time you have to buy your supplies, keep also in mind that 99 rupees will be your maximum through the entire game) before you do it because otherwise you can't get past the skulltulas in the top floor. I used to think it's impossible to climb the wall, but I did it after like twenty minutes until I realised I needed deku nuts so I had do come down and do it again later.
In Jabu Jabu, the bubbles (not the skulls) are the biggest pain because you can kill them just by getting hit by them. I had to reset the entire dungeon a couple times because of them. They're only prevalent during the first half though so it's not that bad. You're going to have to skip the map and the compass so make sure you already know where they are. When you're throwing the boomerang, don't let anything get in the way. The last room is particularly annoying because of that. I think deku nuts actually drop the jellyfish down on the floor there so make sure to use them if you need to. You might want to use deku nuts everywhere actually, because they are going to be your best friend.
Ice keese in the Ice Cavern are the spawn of hate, especially in the room where you're pushing the block around. Link also tends to freeze (I know there's a pun in there somewhere) while the block is sliding across the room and you will take cutscene damage from the keese if they fly into you while it's happening.
If deku nuts didn't work on like likes, you'd be in serious trouble facing Dark Link without a shield. They put one just before his room. You might want to lure the tektites down into the water before you try to reach the door.
In the Shadow Temple before the big room, there's that narrow passage with guillotines and skulltulas. It goes downhill for a while too and it makes deku nuts a little trickier to use. If you're facing straight, Link will throw them all the way down the hill, so you're going to have to smash them against the wall on your side instead. The radius still hits the skulltulas, but it's sometimes hard to do. Either way make sure you're full on deku nuts before entering the temple. You don't have the lens of truth in there so that can be a problem, mostly in the big room where you're jumping on invisible moving platforms. That part is trial and error. You're also skipping the compass so you should remember where invisible chests are at (I think there's only one that you really need for a key, in the little room with spike traps and gibdos), but Bongo Bongo won't be a big deal because while his hands are always visible you don't have to see the rest of him to hit him.
Probably the most fascinating thing I discovered was learning that you don't need the bow in Gerudo's fortress at all. There's only one tough part where you're hiding behind a wooden box and literally sneaking behind a guard's back. Because you don't have the lens of truth, the haunted wasteland is going to be nearly impossible. You're going to have keep an eye on the position of the arrow on the map and even how the sand looks is going to be important in knowing where you are. Youtube helped me with this part. Whoever was first to discover the path was a crazy individual.
You know in the child half of the Spirit Temple, there's that room where you blast a hole in the wall to let light on the sun switch that opens the door? Two skullwalltulas are in the way and with some insane precision you can actually let a bombchu through them and they both survive the explosion. When I did the challenge run, I didn't succeed with that and I was convinced it's necessary to kill one of them. On some later playthrough I tried it again just for fun and that time I somehow did it like a true pacifist would. It probably wouldn't be that bad if the room didn't throw lizalfos at you. If you know exactly where they spawn it might help you move around a little more, but I didn't want to take any chances so I just stood near the corner next to the hole where you entered the room and somehow did it from there.
The are various instances in several dungeons (most commonly in the Shadow Temple) where you're stuck in a kill room just so you could get back through the door where you came from. Farore's Wind will save you, you just have to know that such a room is coming. Saving & quitting is kosher too, if that's not too inconvenient for you.[/espoiler]

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Heart Piece Addict Challenge: Complete the game with all 45 Heart Piece Containers.
Hidden Skills Challenge: Learn all 7 hidden skills from the Hero's Shade. (Boy, wonder who that could be...)I left one freaking heart piece in the forest temple, and when I went back to get it, I couldn't because the monkeys were gone. So now I have all but ONE heart container. -_-;;
Oh, and btw, I haven't read Hyrule Historia because I need to find and buy it. And I didn't figure out who the Hero's Shade was until yesterday. It probably would have helped me figure it out if I had known the official timeline by heart. So some of us might actually not know who he is!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:
The No-Memo Challenge:
I recently accomplished this feat, I also attempt to accomplish it in most other games. The challenge is to complete The Legend of Zelda : OOT without saving your game at all. This is difficult for the beginner, but Ive played this game forever and completed it (without saving) in 8 hours. Can you do it?Let me know if you can do it in other games as well!

Well Doc, that's a good one. I could have sworn I already added it. Coming right up!

I'm pretty sure you can still get it. I haven't played TP in a while but I know that there is no permanently Missable Heart Containers in that game. I believe there are two heart containers in the Forest Temple and neither need you to use the monkeys. According to this page on the wiki, the only games with missable heart containers are in LOZ and PH.

Can you do it?Hmm, the thing is, all it would take is to not turn off your system, which really isn't that much of a challenge since when you die it doesn't make you start from last save point. I will add it as a bonus challenge in OoT because that's probably the hardest one to do it in.
