Lamont Butler’s buzzer-beater may have been the most important shot of the game for the Aztecs, but the greatest takeaway I got from that game was the resurgence of Matt Bradley. The star guard was limited to 2 points against Creighton in the Elite Eight and didn’t score more than 10 points in the previous two rounds either. Bradley finally got it going with three consecutive three-pointers to start the game against FAU and finished with a tournament-high 21 points. Will Bradley be able to replicate his success against a much bigger UConn team?
The reason SDSU found so much success late against FAU was their ability to shoot over the Owls, especially in the mid-range. This UConn team is significantly bigger than FAU and should cause all sorts of trouble for Bradley and the SDSU backcourt. Bradley and Trammell are solid guards, but lack the speed to get around UConn’s big backcourt and Sanogo at the rim.

UConn has destroyed every team in their path up to this point in the tournament. They are undefeated ATS in the tourney and haven’t lost ATS all season when they are a 7.5-point favorite. It’s safe to say that all the preseason hype surrounding the Huskies was for good reason, and their slow start to the season meant nothing. The Huskies are playing their best basketball of the season, and are simply too big for SDSU to keep up. Adama Sanogo has been playing out of his mind in the tournament on both sides of the ball and is currently playing like the best rim protector in the country.
Alex Karaban, the freshman, has looked incredible down the stretch and should match up nicely against SDSU’s frontcourt. He’s been knocking down clutch threes all tournament for the Huskies. Even freshman Donovan Clingan has gotten involved and wreaked havoc in the paint. UConn has started playing the 7’2 backup center with Sanogo down the stretch, and when the Huskies do that, they are simply too big to defend. Oh, and did I even mention future NBA talent Jordan Hawkins? He’s good for 20 points on any given night.
Unfortunately for the Aztecs, the party ends tonight. UConn is simply too big and playing too well for Bradley or the Aztecs to keep up. It may be close for the first few minutes, but just wait until UConn goes on their first run of the first half. They will look unstoppable, as they have all tournament. Nobody is getting in the way of UConn when they are playing this well. Back Dan Hurley and the Huskies to win the National Championship tonight by 10+ points. This one won’t be close.
